Don't think that car intake kit modifications only exist in games and on TV; in fact, car intake kit modifications are quite common in real life. However, this does not mean that a larger intake volume is always better. Below, we will introduce the misconceptions about intake kit modifications.

Misconception 1: The larger the intake volume, the better. For intake system modifications, moderately increasing the engine's intake efficiency can achieve a certain power boost effect (generally not exceeding 10%). It is not difficult to operate, but if you want to further enhance power performance on this basis, things become complicated. In fact, the more fuel and combustion gases provided to the engine, the greater the pressure on the piston, and the higher the torque provided by the engine. However, the original ECU has certain limitations on fuel injection, ignition, and other settings. Once the intake volume exceeds the originally set range, other parts of the engine will not continue to adjust accordingly. Therefore, only modifying the intake part, while the ECU, fuel supply, ignition, and exhaust do not synchronize, will not lead to significant improvements in power performance. On the other hand, increasing the short-term volume will minimize short-term resistance as much as possible. For some small displacement models, at lower engine speeds, due to the low intake negative pressure (suction) provided by the engine, the intake flow will decrease. If the intake is too smooth at the same speed, the low intake resistance will weaken the torque output at low speeds, making acceleration weak during the starting phase (even causing unstable idle and abnormal shaking). Therefore, when modifying the intake, the vehicle itself must be considered.
Misconception 2: Temporarily piecing together unreliable products like secondary intakes and electronic turbines. These modified products not only cannot improve the engine's power performance, but the power values tested on the engine are also lower than the original state. Moreover, modifying these unreliable products can cause unnecessary damage to the engine, which is not worth the cost.
Misconception 3: Misusing "mushroom heads" and randomly replacing intake pipes. It is well known that air filters are used to block dust, but they create resistance to intake. Some car owners who modify the intake will change the mushroom head air separator and alter the original intake pipe. Mushroom head-style air separators can increase the intake area, but the quality of modified air separators in the domestic market is often insufficient, which may lead to the engine sucking in dust, resulting in inevitable failures.
Every car has different torque output characteristics when designed. Unless it is a targeted design modification, directly changing the shape and layout of the intake pipe based on theory may not enhance power performance and could even have the opposite effect.
